Jack Bissett - Starting Strength Coach
I’m a qualified Starting Strength coach based in Cardiff with over a decade of experience training and coaching a wide range of clients, from beginners to competitive athletes. Drawing on both personal competition experience and guidance from top coaches, I help people of all backgrounds become stronger and more capable.

My own journey into the world of strength training began when I was seventeen. I was going to a local bodybuilding gym with some of my mates after sixth form. None of us had any idea what we were doing and, as you might imagine, we made very little progress. All that changed when I discovered Mark Rippetoe and Starting Strength. Without realising it I'd stumbled across something that would transform my life. A complete training philosophy that provided detailed instruction on technique, programming, recovery, and coaching.
After a year of lifting the Starting Strength way I had made more progress than in the previous two years of "bodybuilding" style training. I was hooked. I'm bigger and stronger now than I had ever dreamed of when I first set foot in a gym, now having gained almost 30kg of muscular bodyweight and squatted 500lbs. I've also taken that strength to competition, having competed in amateur powerlifting, olympic weightlifting, and strongman events around the country.
It wasn't too long after finding Starting Strength that I began coaching the method in the weightlifting club in my university and I have been coaching ever since. I've been privileged enough to a coach a wide range of amazing people in my career so far. From people in their sixties and seventies managing arthritis and focussing on healthy ageing, people working through rehab from major surgeries and injury, teenagers using weights for the very first time and everyone in between. I've also been lucky enough to coach several competitive and amateur athletes. I've helped dozens of lifters enter and compete in their first lifting contests, some of whom have gone on to compete in national level competitions. It's not just lifting athletes either. I've helped people prepare for marathons, rowing races, tough mudders and Spartan races too.
Through the education I received in becoming an SSC, to my personal experiences in training, competing and coaching I have the knowledge and skills necessary to make you the strongest possible version of yourself. If you want to know more, get in touch below. I'd love to hear from you!
